Elementary Outdoor Classroom – School District of Spencer

Tucked away in a rarely seen courtyard at Spencer Elementary, this proposed outdoor classroom will transform an underutilized space into a vibrant, accessible learning environment. Designed with both play and purpose in mind, the area will feature:
- A paved central gathering zone with picnic tables for group instruction
- Sensory, water, art, and climbing walls to support hands-on learning
- ADA-compliant surfacing and circulation paths
- Elements for physical play and fine motor development
- Quiet corners for reflection, discovery, and individualized exploration
With an estimated cost of $30,000, this space will be a dynamic extension of the classroom—bringing science, art, and movement into the outdoors for our youngest learners. Construction access is limited, making the project labor-intensive, but its impact will be long-lasting.
We’re excited to share this vision with you and look forward to your support in bringing it to life for Spencer students.
